Description:
Dr Alex Niven has become a household name in any family where there is a love and respect
for both animals and homeopathy.
Dr Niven graduated with his Degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from
Glasgow University in 1971 and was then admitted as a Member of the Royal College of
Veterinary Surgeons.
Dr Niven started his veterinary career focusing on mainly cattle, horses and pigs in Scotland
and then later England. Dr Niven then made his way to South Africa in 1985 where he
practiced in Alberton in a specialist equine practice until 1987 when he then moved to partner
with three other vets at The Fourways Equine Hospital where they had extensive interest in
thoroughbred racing, breeding, and competition horses in general.
It was at this point in time that Dr Niven started his journey into homeopathy. He completed
three-year, part-time course in classical, human homeopathy for medical practitioners,
conducted in Johannesburg. The course is governed by the Royal College of Homoeopathy in
London. The leader was Dr David. Lilley: an internationally respected homeopath who
lectures extensively in Britain.
In 1995 Dr Niven commenced practice as an expert homoeopathic veterinarian. The majority
of cases seen were either referrals from other veterinarians, or second opinions.
Dr Niven has also been involved in complex remedy formulations and nutraceutical
formulations and is involved in ongoing research including equine, canine, feline, piscine,
wild care, bovine, poultry, and porcine investigations.
Dr Niven has authored many books, written a large number of articles for newspapers and
magazines as well as has appeared on many radio and television programmes.
His wealth of knowledge and clinical experience make this lecture unmissable, and we look
forward to listening to Dr Niven talk on:
1. Intra-articular management of joint disease with homoeopathy in horses
2. Diabetes Mellitus in dogs. A paper on successful management with homoeopathy.
3. Treatment of the homoeopathic management of EIPH in racing thoroughbreds.
